Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid has denied that the company owned by the daughter of inspector-general of police Khalid Abdu Bakar obtained any firearms contract from the government.

"Nilai Arms and Ammunitions never secured any contract to provide arms to any enforcement agency under the ministry," he said in a written reply to Parliament yesterday.

Zahid, who spoke in his capacity as Home Minister, was responding to Anthony Loke (DAP-Seremban) who asked if arms contracts were given to the company.

Whistleblower site Sarawak Report revealed that Khalid’s second daughter, Juwiza, as well as his brother-in-law Mohd Isa Hussin, are owners of Nilai Arms & Ammunition (NAA).

Malaysian Crime Watch (MyWatch) chairperson R Sri Sanjeevan urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the matter.

Sanjeevan said if the firm has contracts with the government, there would be a case of conflict of interest.

Khalid has said that the firearms company belonging to his daughter obtained its business licence even before he helmed the police force.

Khalid also said he had barred his daughter from bidding for tenders linked to the government or police.

“They obtained their licence to operate and repair firearms before I became police chief.

“I also forbade them to bid for government and police tenders, so they did not get any tenders to supply weapons from the government or the police,” Khalid told reporters in Bangi on April 25.
