PARLIAMENT There is nothing wrong with the inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar issuing instructions, through Twitter, to his officers to investigate.

This is according to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a parliamentary written reply.

"Such announcements (through Twitter) do not violate any provision or existing regulation; information (sent in this manner) can be disseminated quickly and easily," he said.

"The ministry sees no wrongdoing by the IGP as he is just performing his duty by issuing instructions so that swift action can be taken when issues arise," Zahid said.

"There is no reason to take disciplinary action on such initiative taken to make such announcements," he added.

The IGP is known for his penchant in using Twitter to issue instructions to investigate persons, often for comments made in cyberspace.

Khalid, a active twitter user himself, has often instructed the police to arrest or probe netizens, activists and politicians for allegedly making controversial statements, including against him.

On April 1, he had asked the Police Cyber Investigation Response Centre (PCIRC) to probe a netizen who called him corrupt for protecting the prime minister over 1MDB fiasco.
