DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has claimed that BN and PAS have collaborated to bring up the hudud issue in the Dewan Rakyat for political purposes.

“We were taken aback by the bill. It wasn’t listed in the Order Paper yesterday, but it emerged in the Order Paper today and suddenly brought before the House,” he said.

"This is a collaboratiom between Umno and PAS... between BN and PAS," he said.

He urged BN partners - MCA, MIC, Gerakan and the parties in Sabah and Sarawak - to state their position.

"They have said they will quit BN... I want to know if they are (still) willing to do so," he added.

“Why is BN facilitating this private member ‘sbill ? Why is BN going back on its words,” he asked.

Guan Eng, who is also Bagan parliamentarian, accused that this was a political ploy to divide the opposition.

“They felt that this can be used in the by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar,” he said.

He claimed that the Private's Member Bill introduced by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was unconstitutional in nature.

He warned that the bill, if passed in Parliament, would have an impact on the judiciary system.

"Soon, we will see the country practise two (legal) systems," he said at the Parliament lobby.

The ‘two systems’ remark refers to the laws practised on Muslims and non-Muslims.

“It is only a matter of time before it is extended to the entire country (and affect non-Muslims as well). We are worried about the future,” he added.

He emphasised that he has no issues with the religion nor the syariah law, but the party was troubled by the unconstitutional action.

If the Hudud Bill is passed, it can pave the way for its implementation in Kelantan.

Meanwhile, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has linked the ‘political conspiracy’ between PAS and Umno to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“Najib is under pressure. The political conspiracy between Umno and PAS is somewhat related to that in order to deflect attention from worldwide crackdown on 1MDB,” he said.
 
“We defend all Malaysians, Muslims and non-Muslims,” he said, adding that DAP defended the secular federal constitution.
