PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli plans to call former 1MDB chairperson Lodin Wok Kamaruddin to testify in the suit Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) has filed against him.

LTAT is suing Rafizi for defamation following his exposé that army pensioners were not paid their retirement compensations on time.

"This trial will give me the chance to call a witness who has long slipped public scrutiny, despite his involvement in 1MDB, that is (former 1MDB chairperson) Lodin Wok Kamaruddin.

"As LTAT chief executive, he will not be able to escape from testifying in this trial.

"This case will give me space to obtain various information and documents on financial issues involving LTAT and 1MDB," Rafizi said in a statement today.

He is also facing a charge under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) for exposing a classified document.

The Pandan MP said he is also mulling suing LTAT for claiming that he had malicious intent and that his exposé is untrue.

"But the information was from the auditor-general's report and other facts, which have not been rebutted," he said.

He said LTAT's earlier statement on the matter also inadvertently confirmed the exposé that 110 retirees were still waiting for their compensation.

Rafizi said since the exposé, 69 of these retirees have received their compensations, 23 have been contacted and are in the process of being paid while 16 have yet to hear from relevant agencies.

Weekly complaints

He added that despite the lawsuit, he received weekly complaints from pensioners on the same matter.

Rafizi is also the founder of National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW), an organisation that assists whistleblowers.

The PKR vice-president is also facing a charge under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly exposing a portion of the auditor-general's report on 1MDB as part of the LTAT exposé.

The auditor-general's report on 1MDB remains a classified document.

On the first day of the OSA trial, a witness from the Auditor-General's Department testified that auditor-general Ambrin Buang warned the Public Accounts Committee that a police report would be lodged if the report was leaked.

The report is also part of the PAC's investigation into 1MDB.

The PAC report on its investigations into 1MDB was tabled in Parliament on April 7, but the auditor-general's report on 1MDB was never declassified.

PAC chief Hasan Arifin has said that it is up to the cabinet to declassify the document.
