Rafizi bombed; UTM’s ‘dirty Hindu’ gaffe; BN says no royal snub

Here are the key headlines from yesterday you may have missed, in brief.

Rafizi in hot water over bomb remark

Police reports were lodged against PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli for allegedly saying he would like for an “atomic bomb” to be hurled against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Unperturbed, Rafizi responded by saying that in fact, C4 military grade explosives would suffice.

C4 plastic explosives became part of the Malaysian vocabulary following the gruesome murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu, who was shot and her remains blown up. Najib was implicated when his bodyguards and close associate were charged with the murder.

UTM modules state Islam taught Hindu followers how to stay clean

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) will amend its modules, after slides showing erroneous information on Hinduism and Sikhism went viral on social media.

Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan said the UTM vice-chancellor admitted there was a mistake and would rectify them immediately.

The slides, among others, said Islam taught Hindu followers manners and cleanliness, and that some Hindu followers believe that dirt on the body is a form of ritual which could help them attain nirvana.

It also claimed the founder of Sikhism had shallow knowledge of Islam.

Nazri rebuts critics claim that gov’t ignored rules on NSC Act

Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz said the National Security Council Act was gazetted into law, without refinement sought by the Conference of Rulers because there are no provisions to do so.

The former de facto law minister said the procedure requires the government to table amendments to the law later, he said, when rebutting claims that it did not heed the rulers.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of law Nancy Shukri said the PM has yet to decide the NSC Act's enforcement date.
