Grenade rocks Puchong; cabinet reshuffle fuels mystery

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines from yesterday you may have missed, in brief.

Explosion at Puchong pub

Eight people were injured after a hand grenade was tossed into the porch of a nightspot at the IOI Boulevard in Puchong.

The incident took place just as a couple was attending a wedding anniversary surprise party at the outlet.

A Facebook page linked to the Islamic State reportedly claimed responsibility, but the owner of the pub said preliminary investigation showed the couple was targeted due to a personal dispute.

Cabinet mystery

The sudden departure of Finance Minister II Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah has raised speculation as to whether he wanted out from the 1MDB scandal.

Even Tambun Umno, which Husni led until his concurrent resignation from all political posts, is in the dark and is seeking explanation from him.

The mystery surrounding Husni's resignation has even prompted former minister Zaid Ibrahim to invite him to join the Save Malaysia movement.

Husni's departure was not the only highlight of the cabinet reshuffle. Yesterday, Sarawak BN leaders expressed disappointment that the post of plantation industries and commodities minister, which PBB previously held, was given to a peninsula minister.

The reshuffle has also raised speculation that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman may be taking over the law portfolio from fellow minister Nancy Shukri.

Umno sackings continue to fuel anger

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak said the sacking of Muhyiddin Yassin and Mukhriz Mahathir from Umno and the suspension of Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal are well deserved.

However, their supporters continue to express anger, with one Umno branch leader from the Pagoh Umno division, which Muhyiddin led until his sacking, torching his party uniform.

Semporna Umno, which Shafie leads, was also hit by mass resignation but some leaders claim it was being exaggerated.

Nonetheless, there is still some concern as Umno supreme council member Bung Moktar Radin said he hoped the resignations in Semporna would not cause similar revolts in Pagoh and in Kedah, where Mukhriz had been the menteri besar.
