Cripple Sarawak Report, declassify 1MDB audit report, Kit Siang tells PM
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should declassify the auditor-general's findings on 1MDB in order to cripple whistleblower site Sarawak Report, said DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang.
"Najib should immediately declassify the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB not only to take the wind out of the sails of Sarawak Report, but to show to the world that the Malaysian prime minister and government have nothing to hide about allegations of 1MDB multi-billion ringgit global embezzlement, money-laundering and corruption," Lim said.
In a statement today, he said that by keeping the 1MDB audit report under wraps, Najib was only inviting "global scorn, contempt and humiliation" as Sarawak Report is leaking the documents.
Lim sarcastically added that the only reason the report should be kept secret was if it implicated those responsible for the scandals surrounding Najib and 1MDB.
"Is this the reason?" asked the Gelang Patah MP.
The 1MDB audit report is currently classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).
Sarawak Report claims the report is bad for Najib and the state investment firm, and contained "stark criticism" from auditor-general Ambrin Buang.
Malaysiakini cannot independently verify if the documents published by Sarawak Report are authentic, nor can it report on the contents due to legal restrictions.
