PAS leader: We ignored DAP's wrongdoings once...

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s call for a ceasefire should not be interpreted as an attempt to be part of Pakatan Harapan, said ulama wing information chief Khairuddin Aman Razali.

“There’s no effort to be together with Pakatan Harapan. This will not happen,” he told Malaysiakini.

Khairuddin said this is because PAS is attempting to construct a new political system which is not limited to a two-party system.

“A two-party system has proven to be destructive because each party will close an eye to the mistakes of its partner.

“That happened in Pakatan Rakyat, we saw many wrongs in DAP but we closed our eyes to safeguard Pakatan Rakyat and that is dangerous for the country.

“It’s the same for component parties in BN, they close their eyes to Umno’s mistakes,” he said.

After the fallout between PAS and DAP, Pakatan Rakyat was re-branded as Pakatan Harapan, comprising PKR, DAP and PAS splinter Amanah.

Meanwhile, Khairuddin said Tuan Ibrahim’s statement was merely an advice to Pakatan Harapan parties.

“He (Tuan Ibrahim) was urging Pakatan Harapan not to attack PAS,” he added.

As for Tuan Ibrahim calling opposition parties to compromise, Khairuddin said it was with regard to facing off against Umno.

“We never differ on issues like fighting corruption. But Pakatan Harapan has maliciously tried to portray PAS as being close to Umno.

“That’s a malicious allegation  ̶  an effort to destroy PAS’ reputation.

“Everyone knows how PAS was one of the earliest parties to go against Umno and we have always been consistent in doing so,” he added.
