In solving traffic congestion, DBKL creates new problems

YOURSAY | ‘If the mayors were elected, they would feel the people's pain at the ballot box.’

Car owners feel the pinch from DBKL parking fee hike

Hibiscus: It is obvious that in the move to increase parking fees, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has not considered the problems it will add to the burden of working in Kuala Lumpur.

In solving its own problems of traffic congestion, DBKL has created new ones for the public. The timing of the implementation reflects insensitivities to the already heavy burden of the high cost of living - the goods and services tax (GST), the toll hike, the public transport fees hike, and now this.

I am sure if Kuala Lumpur is governed by Pakatan Harapan, its leaders, being not rich or as rich, least of all obscenely rich, will not be so insensitive to the plight of the rakyat as to increasingly burden them with new taxes and increase fees haphazardly as what is happening.

Anakraja: DBKL must have an election to elect the mayor. When the mayor is elected by the KLites, all local city laws will be governed by the mayor and not the Federal Territories minister.

Next, all KL parliament seats must be held by the opposition and DBKL will then become independent from BN rule. Wait for the next GE14 to show BN where they stand.

Fogbom: The government cut off the third arm of governance, local government, in 1975. We only have appointed councillors and mayors all over Malaysia.

If they were elected, they would certainly feel the people's pain at the ballot box and be thrown out at the next elections. Right now, they do not care nor do they feel what the people experience.

NNFC: When a government needs badly to raise money from parking charges, we wonder what is happening. Parking fees are not meant to be the core revenue source of the government.

Mosquitobrain: DBKL, what about full-day parking coupled with a free car wash? FT Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, for once, think outside the box.

A 150 percent increase will not solve your problem but be a burden to the people.

Anonymous _7469036733201s: Currently DBKL is giving the KLites 'ganja'. In time to come, they will upgrade this to 'heroin'.

Enjoy smoking the stuff and when the general election comes, go vote for the Barang Naik for a better future for all of you. Thanks to the ‘muka berkedut'.

Ex-S'gor MB urges halt to DBKL parking fee hike

Legit: Public transport in KL stinks. DBKL is putting the cart before the horse. How do you take public transport when it is not safe and convenient?

You have taxi drivers who allegedly are thugs and they intimidate the public. The buses are not convenient as they do not ply all the routes. The LRT is okay but it has limited access to places where people want to go.

Why doesn't the minister and the mayor come up with some brilliant ideas to make public transport more accessible and convenient for people before they ask them to use public transport?

There are other cities which have very convenient and comfortable public transport systems and one does not have to own a car. You can't say that for KL, and therefore please do not compare us with these other cities.

The minister and the mayor need a lot of education on this issue as they keep shooting their mouth off without understanding people's problems.

Ima Realist: Something has to be done to reduce the number of vehicles going into KL. We don't have area pricing and our parking rates are the lowest in the world for a major city.

Right now it's just too easy and cheap to drive in KL. Car owners just refuse to use the public transport that is available.

Dkay: In that case, reduce the public transport charges.

DBKL revokes parking fee increase for TTDI, after meeting with Ku Nan

Anonymous_4031c: We have laughable decision-makers. They drew up the central business district (CBD) lines just like how China did for the South China Sea.

It's obvious that Mont Kiara, Bangsar or Damansara Heights areas are not part of the KL city centre as they are on the fringes.

If an electronic road pricing (ERP) gantry system similar to Singapore's was to be erected, you will find it just before you go into the main road leading to the city centre but not at these areas that have been included.

This decision is based not on proper study but more on which type of people or community can afford it.

Appum: Poor mayor. He doesn't know that a lot of the named areas are residential. That's the type of administrators we have in Bolehland.

Oscar Kilo: Bukit Damansara, Sri Hartamas, Desa Hartamas, Solaris Mont Kiara and Bangsar are also residential areas. So will the increase in parking fees be scrapped in those areas, too?

EmEmKay: Today I parked my car in Desa Sri Hartamas for just three hours and incurred parking charges of RM8.

This is unfair as there are no LRT or public bus services to this area. Please revoke the parking charge increase for the Sri Hartamas and Desa Hartamas areas.
