Wong welcomes Chegubard's action, says state will cooperate with MACC
Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin today lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against the Selangor government over the purported change of land usage of Paya Indah Wetlands.
In an immediate response, Selangor executive council member Elizabeth Wong said the state government would cooperate fully with the graft buster.
She, however, asked why it took Badrul Hisham, who is popularly known as Chegubard, so long to take action against the state government.
"The complaint lodged with the MACC by certain quarters... is much welcomed," Wong said in a statement today.
"I had advised them as early as Aug 2 to lodge the complaint immediately, but they took a long time (to do it) and (instead) they made inaccurate media statements on the issues raised," she said.
"Nonetheless, the state government is ready to cooperate with the MACC in this matter for the sake of the people and truth," added Wong.
On July 26, Badrul Hisham accused the state government of changing the status of Lot 68054 in Mukim Tanjong Dua Belas in Paya Indah Wetlands, an area conserved under the Ramsar Convetion, to development status during Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's administration.
The Ramsar Convention is an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands.
According to Badrul Hisham, this might affect Paya Indah Wetlands' 'world heritage' status.
The previous four menteri besar had rejected the change of land usage status, he claimed.
Wong had reportedly claimed that the piece of land referred by Badrul Hisham was a private land located outside of Paya Indah Wetlands.
She also claimed that the state government did not receive any application to have the land status changed.
