MACC is on the right track, let’s hope it will go all the way

YOURSAY | ‘The action is coming fast and furious, but can it be sustained?’

MACC arrests ‘Datuk’ from gov’t-linked bank, freezes RM8m

Anubis: RM15 million to publish a coffee table book (and not a single copy of the book has been published to date)? I guess if your handbag is worth half a million, that's about the right price.

No wonder Umno refuses to let go of the steering wheel (and the national purse strings) even though it has already driven the whole nation down a steep ravine through the party’s ‘bodoh sombong’ dishonesty and incompetency.

Headhunter: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigators have their work cut out for them. They must have hundreds of files on all the big fish, especially those who are in government institutions.

It just that MACC, for some unknown reason, did not touch them. Those who were living beyond their means must now be wetting their pants.

All this while they thought they were untouchable and thus flaunt their wealth without a care, even when people were whispering behind their back.

They forgot that once you flaunt it, you can no longer hide it. The expensive cars, the palatial houses, jewellery, luxurious overseas trips, how to hide all these?

Like they say, if someone wants to hang himself, just give him plenty of rope. I suspect that all the recent cases are only the very tip of the iceberg. The question is, will the MACC be allowed to continue to do its job?

Cogito Ergo Sum: What is shocking is not just the amounts involved in the corruption but also the level at which it is being committed.

Datuks, Datuk Seri, etc - suddenly the rap sheet looks like a who’s who list.

Sa Tombs: Yes, it is very frightening to see the magnitude of the embezzlement and corruption that is taking place in this country.

It is now in the millions and billions. Surely we must be richer than the US. What say you, PM Najib, son of Abdul Razak?

CQ Muar: Slowly but surely, the worms are being dug out from their cosy environment. Of late, we have been impressed by MACC for closing in and exposing those parasites of the nation.

Ever since MACC was headed by a new chief, we start to witness some actions against those who abuse their power, leading to millions of ringgit being deposited with banks.

However, whatever clampdown made against those Datuks, Datuk Seri and whatnot, we eagerly await news regarding those high-ranking ministers and leaders.

I hope this is not another selective action just to gain popularity or a 'wayang kulit' (shadow play) to appease the rakyat.

MACC must get down to serious business, prosecute all regardless of rank or position, if it is to earn our respect.

Liew Lean Kut: Wow, the action is coming fast and furious, but can it be sustained? Everybody, including myself, is looking forward to it.

It is about time these fat snakes are taken out, but I won't praise the MACC yet until those arrested are found guilty.

Bazooka: Just tell the court that the money in the private account of the suspect comes from a donation, either from an Arab sheik or from MO1 (Malaysian Official 1), who received a donation of RM2.6 billion from the late king of Saudi Arabia.

Surely money from donations are perfectly legal, since MO1 has not been charged for the 'crime'.

Ipoh Pp: From these speedy arrests by the new boss in MACC, are we to conclude that the old guy was sleeping on the job?

I hope it’s not a ‘sandiwara’. Go for the whales too, especially those living beyond their means.

Fateh: The newly-minted MACC chief (Dzulkifli Ahmad) wants to "show" the rakyat and the world that he is serious in tackling corruption. But why no action against MO1 and bigger crooks and crocodiles who have looted billions of ringgit?

Aktan: A journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step. We hope MACC has embarked on this journey.

Maybe one fine morning Malaysians will wake up to hear "MO1 netted by MACC"? This is a humongous challenge thrown to the new head of the commission.

Anonymous 1689721435778173: Whatever MACC does to try to redeem its reputation, it will not be enough for so long as MO1 is still at large, let alone still in power.

Anonymous 29051438068738: More loud "stun grenades" thrown to distract angry Malaysians from focusing on MO1 and for the benefit of foreign Malaysia-watchers to create the illusion of a no-nonsense anti-corruption regime.

Of course, this sudden spurt by the MACC could also be to redeem its tattered image as the agency that could have nailed MO1, his co-conspirators and beneficiaries. But it just didn't.

So it is, at the end of the day, all "sound and fury, signifying nothing".

Ima Realist: At least MACC is going after some big fish now. Don't be so ready to label it as an eyewash, or we'll never make any progress.
