Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) wants former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad to contest the Putrajaya parliamentary seat in the next general election under the Pakatan Harapan ticket.

Putrajaya Amanah communications director Mohd Radzi Abu Bakar said the party's new member Husam Musa, who was fielded in the constituency in 2013 as a PAS candidate, also agreed to the idea.

"It is better for Mahathir to be Pakatan Harapan's candidate instead of Husam to contest in the 14th general election.

"Of course, these proposals are subject to the agreement of all the parties in the grand coalition later," he said in a press statement today.

"Mahathir is generally recognised as the master planner and architect who had successfully built Putrajaya as the landmark of success in the development of Malaysia."

Husam, who is also Salor state assemblyperson, joined Amanah on Tuesday.

Radzi said Amanah will strengthen its effort in approaching and briefing locals, including organising townhall meetings to discuss matters pertaining to local issues.

In the last polls, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor defeated Husam with a majority of 4,402 votes, securing 69 percent of the votes cast.
