Are M’sians like the frog in a pot of water over a slow fire?

YOURSAY | ‘We cannot let this crop of leaders lead us to a point of no return.’

Rakyat’s Merdeka message - send the embezzlers to jail

Kim Quek: Thanks, Steve Oh, for this seminal message that has precisely described the tragic state of the nation on verge of collapse into a failed state.

Such will be the inevitable consequence unless the totally discredited PM Najib Abdul Razak is replaced, together with the root cause, which is Umno hegemony - a story of epic degeneration from simple nationalism to a mangled mess of corruption, racism and religious extremism.

Where should we go from here? Status quo with Umno ruling autocratically for God knows how long, or a clean break from the miserable past with a reformist coalition government?

Mushiro: History repeats itself and that is because Umno leaders are tongue-tied and dare speak up only when the 'tyrant' is out of power.

With the exception of Tunku Abdul Rahman who spoke up fearlessly against Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and Mahathir who spoke up openly against both Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Najib, other Malay leaders were compliant 'yes' men who toed the line of the then PMs so that they have a good seat on the gravy train.

Fifty-nine years of Merdeka and Umno cannot boast of any leader who stands out as a fighter for the Malay race, religion or nation.

However, there are Umno leaders who have sold out and pawned the country, race and religion, and they were clapped on by other Umno leaders, and watched helplessly by Malaysians.

Anonymous_1372741039: The 1MDB saga has fired the curiosity and imagination of the rakyat and many will want to see justice done.

Malaysians have resolved that the culprits must face justice in order to ensure that future government servants of rank and file to the highest in office will be brought to book for such dastardly acts of corruption.

It just isn't enough to see the guilty ones go scot-free with a slap on the wrist and permitting such insidious character to live a life of luxury, whilst the rakyat continue to wallow in needs and wants. The rakyat just won't allow it.

Headhunter: Our beautiful nation has so much going for it and yet, because of their propensity for insatiable greed and power, much has been destroyed by a handful of those in power.

They not only plunder the nation with unrestrained greed but also corrupt every single institution in the country whose very existence is to protect Malaysians from such abuse.

They and their paid goons are allowed to run amok without a care of how much destruction they have subjected the nation to.

Where are our brave men and women when we needed them most? Is there no more hope?

Merdeka? It's getting less and less relevant and meaningful to most. Notice no one flies the flag any more unless they are forced to?

Yours and My Malaysia: After the first 12 years since 1957, Aug 31 is just another day for me. The nation has lost its soul and in a desperate ‘lost identity’ mode.

OneVoice: Please tread carefully when you use the word ‘rakyat’. At this juncture, the majority of the rakyat - and this time we mean majority - are not talking about embezzlers but want the country to stop this deadly game of provocation.

Never stand up to speak for the rakyat when you have no mandate, especially if you are writing in a poorly-read online portal.

The Analyser: Steve Oh, you have just spent the last 30 years living in Australia. Then you come back here to obsess about 1MDB/Najib as being the major problems facing Malaysia. All I can say is that you didn't learn much in those 30 years.

Clearly you learnt nothing about human rights, egalitarianism and democracy. Apparently you learnt nothing about how a civilised society should operate.

And more importantly, you have failed to become informed about how a proper two-party system of governance works where the people and the future are the driving forces in politics.

Basically, you are supporting a money-obsessed autocracy with no direction, no vision and a totally selfish and greedy attitude to everything.

Liew Lean Kut: Analyser admitted that the present government is what the civil society is accused of, that is, corrupted to the core. On the other hand, he laments that there is no party that has the stature to take over the reins of government.

Well, buddy, what is your suggestion, let this corrupted government continue to rule until an alternative party that meets your standard emerges?

Oh no, brother, I am very sure there are many alternative Malay leaders capable of taking over and they are waiting for the people to push them forward. We cannot let this crop of leaders lead us to a point of no return.

Just a Malaysian: The opposition are ruling Selangor and Penang, the two most prosperous states, and they are doing pretty well. There is no reason they cannot do a better job than the likes of the present cabinet members.

A perfect alternative will evolve from our present opposition. It is not an instant cure but a first step towards normalcy.

Telestai!: Being optimistic is a good thing but unless Malaysians wake up and take charge of the country, there is little hope of all these happening.

Someone remarked that Malaysians are like the frog in a pot of water over a very slow fire. It is oblivious of the situation developing as it is very comfortable until the water reaches boiling point, by which time it will be too late.

This is exactly happening to Malaysia, which will one day be bankrupt - similar to what is going on in Venezuela and Brazil.
