Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said action will be taken against those who file police reports for their own political gain.

He noted that there are those who frequently file politically-motivated reports.

"Yes. We see the trend," Khalid told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

"We have decided to take action under Section 182 of the Penal Code for (lodging) a false report, if we find any party purposely using the police for their own political interest," he said.

"I think they should know, I don't have to tell them what to do," Khalid added, responding to a question on whether the police would conduct a dialogue with political parties on this matter.

Khalid also said the Regional Digital Counter-Messaging Communications Centre, which set up to counter IS’s propaganda, has been running for two months.

“The prime minister will launch the centre next month,” he said.

“We have sent our officers to Dubai to study how their counter-messaging centre operates,” he added.

The messages will be delivered in three languages - Malay, English and Arabic.
