Sekinchan state assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim has questioned the real reason behind the red shirts movement choosing community service over confronting Bersih today.

At a high tea event – part of electoral reform group Bersih's convoy activity from Sekinchan to Kuala Selangor today – Ng "congratulated" the red shirts for being busy with the group's purported community service.

Ng, however, claimed he was told that red shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos' "Sekinchan Ikan Bakar Hotel" (Sekin Hotel and Resort) may become flooded due to the high tide.

"So he has to fortify it, if not...," said Ng, to laughter from the crowd at the event in Kampung Permatang, Kuala Selangor.

"It's not so much for community service, rather, more for (his) own personal interests," added Ng.

Ng's remarks were a dig against Jamal who yesterday said that the red shirts will not be confronting Bersih today.

Jamal had said that his men will be aiding villagers who are being threatened by the high tide today.

The high tide phenomenon is expected to take place from today until Oct 19.

Bersih is presently holding a nationwide roadshow to build momentum for its Bersih 5 rally on Nov 19.

The red shirts, which have threatened to confront Bersih 5 participants on the day of the rally, have also been harassing Bersih's roadshows.

The red shirts and Bersih activists have clashed for two weekends in a row, as Jamal and his men attempted to block the yellow shirts' convoy.

Last week, a Bersih supporter was egged and kicked by red shirts supporters.
