Former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has panned Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's vision of TN50 (National Transformasi 2050) unveiled in Budget 2017 last Friday.

He said such vision may be headed nowhere.

"If his government does not correct the abuse of power and rectify good governance, the country would head nowhere," he said on the sidelines of his court case in Shah Alam today.

He also said the government should handle the huge deficit that the country is facing and the high prices faced by the people.

Anwar, who was former finance minister during Dr Mahathir Mohamad's cabinet in the 1990's was asked to comment on Najib's budget speech last Friday.

He said the deficit is big at present.

“We can announce but the question is, where is the money coming from. This is the basic principle.

“The abuse of power and various abuses have to be handled properly. We cannot manage the damage when there is wastage and when there is an economic downturn.”

The PKR de-facto leader also said that it was important to handle the issue of rising costs of items and project implementation.

“The leakage and wastage is not being handled,” he said.

Yesterday, Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar also took pot shots at Najib's TN50 vision, as it seemed he was negating the vision built by his predecessor, namely Dr Mahathir's Vision 2020.

Vision 2020 was Mahathir's quest to see Malaysia to be a developed nation.

“We may not agree with a lot of things Mahathir did, there was a lot of cruelty, but when it came to the vision which outlined our shared future (we did not attack it),” she said in Parliament adding that Najib should accept good policies for the people, and to accept any weaknesses on the government’s part.

Najib had last Friday, unveiled a 2017 Budget of RM260.8 billion with an operating expenditure of RM214.8 billion for operating expenditure.
