Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad wants to know what Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak intends to transform with his Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50).

“I don’t know what it is all about. What is the transformation?” he told reporters after a book launch in Kuala Lumpur today.

Mahathir was responding to Najib’s TN50 which was unveiled in his Budget 2017 speech last week.

Najib’s number one critic also pointed out how Najib had previously outlined many things but that “nothing has happened”.

Asked on Najib's remark that it was time to let the “old legacy pass”, Mahathir merely responded with a wry smile and a shrug.

Najib in his speech last Friday did not make any reference to Mahathir's Vision 2020 to make Malaysia a developed nation, but had said the time had come to put the past aside.

Najib said the government would launch a series of national discourses to chart the nation's future direction under TN50.

Najib said TN50 would be kicked-started by the young and diverse generation of all races through national discourse.

Meanwhile, Mahathir said he was not in the know that his stalwart, Khairuddin Abu Hassan, had left Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

“I don’t know, I haven’t heard about it.”

Asked whether he was shocked with Khairuddin’s decision, Mahathir insisted that he did not know whether the matter was true or otherwise.

“I have to talk to him,” he said, when pointed out that the matter had been reported.

Khairuddin’s announcement, through a statement, came as a surprise as he had repeatedly said he would not join the party in the first place, and it was unclear when he actually joined Bersatu.
