Umno-linked red-shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos will gather his supporters to protest outside Malaysiakini's office this Saturday.

"We see that the most appropriate place to hold it would be at Malaysiakini because they are also recipients of funds from Soros," he told reporters outside Dang Wangi district police station this afternoon.

He said this when asked to comment on Kuala Lumpur mayor Md Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz's statement this morning that Dataran Merdeka is out of bounds for red-shirts supporters as well as Bersih 5.

"I respect the mayor's decision and we have done all that is necessary under the law," said the Umno Sungai Besar division chief.

Jamal had earlier lodged a report against Bersih over allegations that the electoral reform coalition is a recipient of funds from international grant-making network Open Society Foundation (OSF) founded by George Soros.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini editor-in-chief Steven Gan said the red-shirts have a democratic right to hold a peaceful protest.

“We have provided a detailed explanation on the funds obtained from Open Society Foundation (OSF) and are more than willing to cooperate with the authorities should there be an investigation.

“As mentioned earlier, Malaysiakini is not about toppling governments but rather holding those in power accountable to the public, which is the fundamental role of any media organisation,” he added.

Jamal summoned to Bukit Aman

Jamal also said he would be going to the Bukit Aman police headquarters for questioning later today.

"I will go to Bukit Aman after this (press conference) for questioning on I do not know what case.

"Maybe on the police reports by Bersih against me," he said.

Jamal insisted that the investigations against him is a sign of police's alleged double-standard as none of Bersih leaders have been investigated over the foreign funding claims.
