Alibaba founder Jack Ma, the newly-minted Digital Economy Adviser to the Malaysian government, is "very excited" over the new task given to him.

Speaking at the launch of Alitrip Malaysia Tourism Pavilion, which is being developed with Alibaba, Ma said he was looking forward to next year, when Malaysia would launch its Digital Trade Zone with his assistance, and the many years to come.

The internet tycoon, who earlier called on Najib Abdul Razak, said he had a wonderful discussion with the Malaysian prime minister on "what we can do together in Malaysia and China".

Ma also paid tribute to Najib's father, Abdul Razak Hussein, for his vision to establish diplomatic relations with China, and because of that move, "what a wonderful thing has happened with remarkable trade between Malaysia and China, and closer and stronger ties."

Based on the social network, he said, Malaysians were friendly people since the average Malaysian had 235 friends on the social network, and this reflected how Malaysians valued friendship.

Thus, he said, there was a need to come up with new technology apps and interactives to get the young people connected and come together to create a more peaceful place to stay.

On Malaysia, Ma expressed his love for the country, where he had a beautiful holiday with good food, culture and visiting interesting places.

"Two thousand years ago, the Chinese came to Malaysia to survive, now 2,000 years later, the Chinese should go to Malaysia to relax," he said in jest.
