Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said his movement had nothing to do with the protest by the red shirts movement yesterday.

"As an institution, we are not involved. We were not involved in the protest outside Malaysiakini's office," he told reporters today.

However, he did not dispute the fact that some Umno Youth members may have participated in the protest in their personal capacity.

"I do not know if they were (any Umno Youth members) who attended in their personal capacity.

"But there were no instructions or involvement in terms of Umno Youth as an organisation," said Khairy.

Umno Youth exco member Armand Azha Abu Hanifah was spotted at the protest.

Armand had also been spotted at several other red shirts protests against the ongoing Bersih 5 nationwide convoy to drum up support for their Nov 19 rally.

Soros interference alleged

The red shirts were protesting against the funding of several Malaysian organisations by grant making group Open Society Foundation (OSF), which is run by billionaire George Soros.

Sungai Besar Umno division head Jamal Md Yunos, the leader of the red shirts, claim that Soros was responsible for the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 and funded several revolutions worldwide.

Jamal claimed that OSF's next target was Malaysia and was funding groups with the intention of interfering with the electoral process.

Umno-owned Malay daily Utusan Malaysia yesterday quoted Khairy as urging authorities to expedite investigations into the organisations' source of funding claiming the people - particularly red shirts supporters - are demanding the truth to be revealed.

Up to 700 red shirts rallied at Malaysiakini's headquarters in Petaling Jaya yesterday for over two hours.

Jamal had originally wanted to hold a rally in Dataran Merdeka, but moved it to the news portal’s office after Kuala Lumpur City Hall denied both the red shirts and Bersih permission to gather at the historic square.
