Police will divert traffic at several hotspots in Kuala Lumpur that will be affected by the Bersih rally tomorrow.

Altogether, there will be 58 traffic diversions, Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh confirmed at a press conference today.

Advising the people against the entering Dataran Merdeka area, Amar Singh said the diversions were to ensure that traffic at its surrounding areas would be smooth tomorrow.

The people are also advised to avoid entering these areas: Dataran Maybank in Bangsar, Brickfields (Little India), Masjid Negara and Muzium Negara, Sogo and Dataran Merdeka, Parliament and Bank Negara, Pudu Central and Central Market as well as the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) and Chow Kit.

“Use alternative routes to enter the city centre and use public transport," Amar Singh said.

He also confirmed that the diversions will start at 7am and will end after the Bersih rally ends tomorrow.

Amar Singh also stressed that the diversions were not roadblocks.

“They are (traffic) diversions. When you try to enter the area, you will be diverted to another area,” he said.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar on Tuesday denied issuing a statement on the closure of roads for the Bersih 5.

A message that several roads in the city would be closed tomorrow from 5am to 6pm has gone viral on social media.

The roads listed are Jalan Kuching, Jalan Mahameru, Jalan Tun Ismail, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz, Jalan Ampang, Jalan P Ramlee, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Pasar, Jalan Dewan Bahasa, Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Gereja.

Bersih plans to hold its rallies in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu tomorrow.

Clashes are expected to occur as the red-shirts have vowed to be wherever the 'yellow-shirts' are.
