Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (PHM) will organise a rally in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25 next year in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) rally.

According to PHM chairperson P Waythamoorthy, who announced this today, this rally will call on the public to vote against BN.

"PHM calls on all well-wishers to join us in highlighting to the entire country that Umno-BN does not deserve a single vote of any Malaysian in the next general election.

"We would also be collaborating with other minority groups, including our brothers from Sabah and Sarawak, to join us in this great endeavour to democratically oust BN from power," Waythamoorthy (photo) said in a statement.

On Nov 25, 2007, the country saw the largest ever anti-government protest by Indian Malaysians, involving an estimated 30,000 people, frustrated over decades of government neglect.

The de facto leader of the Hindraf movement at the time was P Uthayakumar. Although Waythamoorthy was involved in the movement, he was not in the country during the time of the rally.

Waythamoorthy returned to Malaysia in 2012 and formed PHM, which pledged allegiance to BN after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Following the signing of the MOU, he had a short stint as a deputy minister in charge of Indian affairs.

In his statement today, Waythamoorthy said Najib had promised through the MOU that Putrajaya would carry out socio-economic activities tailor-made for the Indian community.

"He assured that the funding and programmes would be entrusted to the PHM leadership. This promise was made specifically as the PM claimed he was aware development programmes meant for the Indian community did not reach the targeted group.

"Though Hindraf supported BN in the last general election based on this promise and the written MOU, the PM has proven once again that Umno cannot be trusted and will even be willing to break a written agreement, to keep its crony - the MIC - in power," Waythamoorthy said.
