Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has advised the people not to listen to rumours involving a deadly shooting rampage on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway last night.

"Do not speculate, wait for police information," Lim said.

Three civilians, including a "Datuk" were casualties of the shootout, which involved a bodyguard who reportedly suffered from mental problems.

The 35-year old bodyguard also has a military background, served in the Wataniah voluntary army corps and was licensed to carry and use the gun.

Lim had spoken to inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar and Penang police chief Abdul Ghafar Rejab about the matter and was told it was an incident involving a person with mental problems.

"The case is serious, with three deaths and injuries to three civilians, but let's leave it to the police to probe the matter," Lim said after visiting the victims at the Penang Hospital today.

"They have arrested and remanded (for seven days) two suspects. We hope police will act soon on those responsible for this," he added.

"We hope it is just a case of the suspect running amok and not related to other incidents," added Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general.

Lim was in hospital to visit those who were injured in the shootout.

The victims included RTM cameraman Mohamad Amirul Amin Amir, 28, who underwent surgery this morning as he was shot on the shoulder by the suspect.

"I have spoken to the doctors. They are all fine and we are here to see what we can do to help," Lim said.

Meanwhile, PKR Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin visited Amirul in hospital today and said he appeared stable.

"When he saw me, he raised his hand slightly, this is a positive sign, but he still needs all our prayers, " Sim said.

"I have also conveyed my wishes and prayers to his mother, whom I met outside the ICU in the hospital today," he added.
