Pakatan Harapan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia will decide on adopting one of four options in regards to forming an electoral pact tomorrow, said Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir.

A high level meeting between the four parties will be held tomorrow at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

An official announcement followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Bersatu and Harapan is expected in the afternoon.

According to Mukhriz, both Harapan and Bersatu have given their commitment to collaborate in the coming general election and to form a government together if they have enough seats.

What remains to be decided is the actual form of co-operation.

"We have several option, it will only be known which option (both sides) will choose (tomorrow)," he told Malaysiakini.

The four options, according to Mukhriz, are:

- “Harapan plus Bersatu” in co-operation;
- Bersatu joins Harapan;
- Forming a new coalition altogether; or
- Another form of cooperation altogether.

"Whatever it is, it is not limited to just electoral pact. The whole idea is for us to ensure the best way to form a new government.

"It is not just marriage of convenience to face next general election. This is not our intention at all, as it is too short term," he added.

Previously, Bersatu leaders said they have been extending overtures to various opposition parties to form a pact and set a new agenda to “save Malaysia”.

Harapan appeared to have warmed up to the idea, despite Bersatu being led by former Umno leaders.

However, PAS has made clear that they will not work with Bersatu if they were to join Harapan, because the Islamic party views DAP and Amanah as enemies.

The '3+1' option

On the Bersatu's participation in a Selangor PAS event tonight, Mukhriz said this was necessary as all opposition parties must be included to ensure straight fights against BN during the general election.

“This maximises our chances of winning. We need to be open to all parties.

"Eventually, we must have deadline in order for us to evaluate if there are any party that is serious in wanting to cooperate with us.

"Until such a time, we keep our doors open," he said.

Several Harapan leaders contacted were less inclined to provide details on what exactly will be on the meeting table tomorrow.

However, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said the Harapan secretariat has several proposals that would be presented to the coalition's presidential council tomorrow.

He and another source from DAP confirmed that one proposal was called the “3+1” option.

Meanwhile, a highly-placed source from Amanah was confident that Harapan and Bersatu will officially become allies tomorrow.

The source added that the draft agreement which is to be signed by Bersatu tomorrow, was nearly identical to the document which PKR, DAP and Amanah had signed during the formation of Harapan.

One key stipulation in the agreement, claimed the source, was that no party would have a bigger say than other coalition partners.
