The opposition should learn from the BN how to work as a coalition, MIC treasurer-general S Vell Paari says.

"We do not change our coalition before every election, like they do. We stick with one, that is the BN.

"At times, of course, we do have differences in opinion, but we always believe in the spirit of BN and we stick together as one," Vell Paari said in a statement today.

He was responding to the three parties under Pakatan Harapan - PKR, DAP and Amanah - and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), which yesterday officially agreed to an electoral pact in the coming general election.

Vell Paari also questioned who the new opposition pact's candidate for prime minister would be if they were to win the next general election.

"Will it be (jailed de facto opposition leader) Anwar Ibrahim, (Bersatu president) Muhyiddin Yassin or (Bersatu deputy president) Mukhriz Mahathir?

"I am sure that until today they can't even confirm who will be their prime minister candidate because everybody in that pact is fighting for that position," he said.

BN is steadfast as a team

Unlike the opposition coalition, Vell Paari said, everyone in BN is steadfast as a team and will go into the election with one leader, that is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

He recalled that there have been numerous opposition pacts and alliances throughout the years, such as Barisan Alternatif in 1998, then Pakatan Rakyat in the 2008 and 2013 general elections and now Pakatan Harapan in 2016.

Though they have used different names, these alliances usually consisted of the same opposition leaders, such as Anwar, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

"Every time there is an election around the corner, they will decide to work together but after elections they will break up again and start to fight one another," Vell Paari said.

This shows that the opposition only forms these political pacts to "play politics" instead of working for the betterment of the rakyat, he said.

The most surprising thing about the newest iteration of the opposition alliance, he said, is that Pakatan Harapan is now working with a party chaired by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, a leader whom the opposition "so despised" previously.

"Lim Kit Siang once famously called Mahathir an undemocratic leader and a liar.

"Now they are working together to save their families' political dynasties," Vell Paari claimed.
