One of the main ingredients in the formula for Sarawak's harmony is the fact that Umno and it's "foreign" Malaya ways were never introduced into the state, Borneo Post quoted Deputy Chief Minister James Masing as saying.
This, coupled with the high level of tolerance among its people and state's leaders ability to maintain the intricate fabric of its social structure has made Sarawak a model state in Malaysia, he claimed further.
“Sarawak’s social structures are in such a way that allows us to live in peace with each other. Because of this we will not allow Malaya’s social, culture and political culture to encroach into Sarawak.
