Mystery minister revealed; Wan Azizah on de facto leader

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Mystery minister revealed

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the mystery minister referred to by Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali was Foreign Minister Anifah Aman, but denied the senior minister was going to quit.

Azmin refused to confirm if the senior minister he claimed was quitting over the 1MDB scandal was indeed Anifah, citing respect for the conversation between him and the senior minister.

Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the disgruntled minister should turn to friends like himself instead of Azmin, who is a BN enemy.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang claimed talk about Anifah’s possible resignation from the federal government may be linked to the likelihood of a Sabah snap polls.

Zahid did not rule out Sabah holding early elections, but said the state leadership needed to give strong reasons.

Wan Azizah speaks up on Dr M as de facto leader

Opposition leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail pointed out that Dr Mahathir Mohamad still had to meet Anwar Ibrahim despite claims the former prime minister was now the de facto opposition leader.

Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the love-hate relationship between Mahathir and Anwar had gone on for decades and another falling out in future was not impossible.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak joined in the opposition’s debate over who is their de facto leader, naming DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang as the man calling the shots.

Klang MP Charles Santiago said the passing of S Balamurugan at the North Klang district police headquarters is the 243rd custodial death since 2000 and authorities must ensure this is the last.
