Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom will attend the Act 355 rally at Padang Merbok in Kuala Lumpur, said PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan today.

"He will (join us) at the prayer session," he said, adding that Jamil would attend in his capacity as a cabinet minister and this showed that the government supported the rally.

Malaysiakini has texted Jamil and is awaiting his response.

Nasrudin also clarified that PAS did not organise the Feb 18 rally on its own, but with 10 NGOs.

"This is organised by the Act 355 secretariat which comprises 10 NGOs," he added.

The secretariat, he said, has openly invited cabinet ministers, lawmakers and politic parties to attend the rally.

"This will be a gathering for Muslims and non-Muslims. We invite all Malaysians to attend," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

According to Nasrudin, leaders of the Non-Muslims Debaters Association of BN and the Hindu Association of Pahang are among the 21 speakers.

The rally is held to support PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's motion to amend the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act, or Act 355.

Nasrudin is confident that the gathering would attract more than 200,000 despite Padang Merbok's 45,000 capacity.

He said the nine-hour gathering would start at 2pm and Jalan Parlimen is expected to be closed on that day.

The Temerloh MP said he has no issues with a counter-rally as this is a democratic country.

A group of secular activist BEBAS would organise the 'Malaysians Reject Hadi's Bill' gathering at Taman Jaya in Petaling Jaya simultaneously with the Act 355 gathering.
