Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has agreed with efforts to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim said both parties had discussed the matter recently and received the nod from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

"We have discussed this and (Muhyiddin), in principle, had agreed (with the amendments). There is no problem.

"They only have one representative in Parliament - Muhyiddin," Tuan Ibrahim told reporters at the sidelines of a PAS fundraising dinner in Kuala Lumpur last night.

He claimed that Muhyiddin had affirmed that Bersatu had no problems with the amendments.

"He has given his commitment that any issues (we) raise in Parliament will not be a problem (for Bersatu).

"(The amendments sought) will elevate the Syariah Court and he does not have a problem supporting it," said Tuan Ibrahim.

Tuan Ibrahim said this in response to a question on whether PAS will compel Bersatu to agree to the proposed amendments before forging an electoral pact.

He declined to respond to questions on when the meeting took place.

The amendments are being sought by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang. His private member's bill will likely be debated and voted on during the ongoing Dewan Rakyat sitting.

During the dinner, a green baju melayu belonging to the late Haron Din, the former PAS spiritual leader, was auctioned off for RM3,500.

"To me, it is worth the price (because) the tuan guru had sacrificed a lot for Islam during his lifetime," said successful bidder Muhammad Hanif Jamaluddin.

Haron passed away last year at the age of 76.
