An unemployed youth in Kelantan has allegedly used the BR1M government aid he received, to purchase psychotropic pills (pil kuda).
According to a news report, the 24-year-old suspect had confessed this to officers from the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK).
AADK Bachok enforcement unit head Muhammad Rostam Mohd Aluwi said the suspect has been arrested three times prior to this.
“Unfortunately, BR1M which is given by the government for those in need of (financial) help, is abused by individuals like this,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Rostam said the youth has been sent to the Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC) in Dengkil.
“The suspect is among 17 suspected drug users who were detained during an operation at Kampung Hujung Repek, Jelawat, Teluk Kemunting and Tawang several days ago.
“Of this, 11 had tested positive for drugs such as methaphetamine or pil kuda. The suspects are aged between 14 and 48,” he added.
The ADDK officer said a woman and a teenager were also arrested at a house, and the pair had tested positive for "pil kuda".
He added that six of the suspects, who were arrested under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, have been sent for rehabilitation.
