The Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) will be conducting a two-day tribunal hearing beginning tomorrow to investigate allegations of police brutality during the Keadilan-organised 100,000 People's Gathering on Kesas Highway on Nov 5.

A Suhakam official told malaysiakini today that two reformasi activists who were detained at the gathering are scheduled to testify at the tribunal despite being required to report at the Klang police station at 9am tomorrow.

"We have been informed that these witnesses will attend the tribunal first before reporting to the police station," the official who declined to be identified said.

The tribunal will be conducted by commissioners Anuar Zainal Abidin, Mehrun Siraj and Simon Sipaun at Suhakam's investigation room on the 29th floor of Menara Tun Razak in Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur.

The two witnesses, Saidin bin Wateh @ Pak Din and Norazimah Mohd Nor were among 125 reformasi supporters who allegedly suffered police brutality while in remand. They are currently out on police bail after being produced before the Klang magistrate's court.

Norazimah claimed that she was forced to strip naked in the Klang police lock-up and told to squat and stand up repeatedly by a woman police officer.

Saidin suffered temporary loss of vision when police sprayed an eye-irritant into his eyes.

The police turned on Saidin when he confronted two riot policemen who were beating a helpless old man at the gathering of some 10,000 people.

The assembly was originally scheduled to be held at the residence of a Keadilan supporter in Jalan Kebun, Shah Alam but police roadblocks forced supporters to abandon their vehicles on the Kesas Highway and walk towards the venue.

The supporters including BA leaders were then met with a barrage of tear gas and other chemical irritants. The police were also alleged to have confiscated the cameras of various press photographers.
