‘Unusual wealth’ a crime only for those in opposition

YOURSAY | 'Go after those who had unusual amount of money in their bank account without their knowledge, too.’

Yong: If 'unusual' wealth a crime, many politicians will be in trouble

Anonymous #03815719: Gerakan Youth deputy chief Andy Yong has posed a good question to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Yong, you need not be apologetic because the commission must inform all and sundry what Ampang PKR Youth chief Adam Rosly's alleged offence or crime is.

It should not be just because Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos lodged a report. Can Jamal account for his own wealth and has MACC asked Jamal to do so?

As His Highness Sultan Raja Nazrin Shah had said, justice must not only be done, but seen to be done.

Cinta: Gerakan members normally don't speak sense. However, this time I do agree with its deputy Youth chief Yong.

Many, too many, politicians would be in big trouble if MACC can carry out investigations into every single one of them impartially.

It shows one thing: politicians get involved in politics to be rich.

Goldee: Adam has already explained how and where he had obtained his wealth, which he said is through his and his father's business. Why is he being probed for unusual wealth?

Many more people have unusual wealth, such as those who had unusual amount of money getting into their bank account without their knowledge.

Maplesyrup: If one’s wealth is described as unusual, it usually means it is not something that is expected to be attained through normal means, be it inheritance, investment or business.

What Yong is suggesting is that too many politicians in Malaysia has unusual wealth. Is that not exactly the problem in Malaysia?

Corruption is the cause of the unusual wealth because if the person cannot show the source, be it inheritance or investments or business income, isn’t it obvious the source is illegal?

Thinkingmachine: This is where politics contaminates the democratic system. I am so proud of Adam, who is a young Malay who has shown the intelligence and resilience to become a successful businessman. He can be a role model to the young Malays. God bless him.

Ace: Adam was detained not because of his "unusual wealth". He was detained because he is an opposition leader.

There are far more people with even more unusual wealth in Umno, but we don't hear of anyone being harassed.

Headhunter: Yong is right on this one. Obviously, Adam is targeted because of his political stand. Just look at all the BN politicians and tell us which one is not living beyond his means?

Vision2020: What about the SRC International funds that former PAS leader Nasarudin Mat Isa is said to have received, as reportedly substantiated by MACC? Has no action been taken?

Ib: Selective prosecution can be interpreted as political persecution, which we know happens. Why, for example, is Nanyang Siang Pau being investigated, when Utusan Malaysia, which has been found wrong in court many times in their reporting, allowed to go on with their lies?

Abasir: "Unusual" wealth is a crime only if you are opposition-leaning. If you are Umno-linked, you are likely to be automatically eligible for federal awards and positions in the cabinet. Yong should have known that.

'FAM will lose RM34m if it loses two court cases'

Simple Malaysian: I am confident Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has the ability to use his good negotiating skills to overcome this setback.

I also hope it will expose the unscrupulous individuals who had put FAM in this situation.

Anonymous 2393771451372105: Signing one-sided agreements have always been a way of life in this country. Why? It's the kickbacks they get. The country is totally corrupt. Why? Because of leadership by example.

Appum: But isn't this method of administration what we have had all along in all aspects of contract negotiations in the Umno-BN government?

That is how they are trained to negotiate - to allow the other party to benefit.

Look at all our highway contracts, the government has always to compensate huge amounts to the already profiting concessionaires if they are not allowed to profit more by raising toll fares after a few years.

Look at the buy-back contracts of failed GLCs (government-linked companies), the government pays hefty valuations for them. It looks like there are no smart officials running all the organisations in this country.

Or there must be something wrong for such repetitive behaviour to occur all the time. You know and we know what is going on behind such cases. It can only take a smart Tunku to voice such incompetent, or shady, deals.

Anonymous 539281478077880: Tunku Ismail, what you have found in FAM may be just the tip of the iceberg. There will be more to come, I am sure. Please check all the earlier FAM managements and their sandiwaras.

Anonymous 2410591459862040: Tunku, please dig further. Let's see what other deals are unfavourable to FAM.
