PM's strategic mistakes; PAS trains guns on fellow opposition

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

PM's strategic mistakes

DAP's Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong claimed Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had committed a strategic overreach in trying to replace key Umno warlords ahead of the upcoming general election and is therefore in a much weaker position within the ruling party despite being previously described as "unsinkable".

MIC and Gerakan dismissed claims that the parties received money directly from Najib which allegedly originated from 1MDB, insisting that the source of their funds came from BN.

DAP's Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said MIC president S Subramaniam should prove that the RM19 million his party received - allegedly from Najib’s personal bank account - did indeed come from BN by providing documentation.

Former MCA president Ling Liong Sik said he had never received money from then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he headed the party.

PAS trains guns on fellow opposition

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan claimed DAP was out to install its stooge as the next menteri besar if PAS losses Kelantan in the 14th general election after DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang endorsed Parti Amanah Negara vice-president Husam Musa as the opposition’s MB candidate.

Nasrudin also claimed reports lodged against 1MDB made by certain individuals overseas proved PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's claim of attempts to invite foreign intervention in Malaysia.

Subsequently, former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan dared Nasrudin to name him as the complainant and threatened to sue him over the "foreign intervention" accusation.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak claimed Pakatan Harapan was trying to politicise the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Forex Scandal and accused them of double standard.

PKR communications chief Fahmi Fadzil returned salvo, claiming that Salleh had falsely painted Harapan as being opposed to the RCI when it was supportive of it, and added that it also wanted another RCI for the 1MDB scandal.

No dam, no road

Sarawak deputy chief minister James Masing said there will be no Long Lama-Ulu Baram road if residents refused to accept the Baram dam project and told them to make a choice.

Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian criticised Masing's statement, reminding him that the late former Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem did not want the construction of more dams.

Gerakan said it is mulling an injunction to stop the construction of an undersea tunnel in Penang.

Penang DAP chairperson Chow Kon Yeow accused Gerakan of trying to sabotage projects that would benefit Penangites.
