The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating another hotel purchase by Felda Investment Corporation (FIC).

According to a source, the four-star hotel, situated in Kuching, Sarawak, is believed to have been purchased at a price way higher than its original tag.

The probe into the hotel's purchase started as the MACC was investigating FIC's purchase of a four-star hotel in Kensington, London, between 2013 and 2015.

"Initial information received by the investigation team revealed that the purchase of the hotel in Kuching has caused FIC hundreds of millions of ringgit in losses.

"The investigators are now putting together the information received and are expected to visit the FIC's office in several locations to gather documents and other evidence, soon," said the source.

MACC investigations director Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed his officers had started gathering information on the Kuching hotel deal.

He said that the commission will conduct a thorough probe to ascertain whether there were elements of graft and abuse of power involved in the deal.

Meanwhile, the New Straits Times (NST) reported that several people are expected to be hauled up to court soon over FIC's London hotel deal, very soon.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki told the daily that the commission had wrapped up its investigations into the case and will be submitting the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP), by next week.

Azam, however, declined to reveal how many people would be charged, or how many charges would be filed.

MACC has thus far called more than 100 witnesses pertaining to the case and Azam told NST that the report to the DPP was based on documents the commission had seized from the Felda Global Ventures (FGV) headquarters, as well as from statements taken from individuals questioned pertaining to the scandal.

Last week, MACC arrested and remanded two real estate agents connected to the deal which saw the hotel being purchased at a bloated price, causing FIC millions of ringgit in losses, in the process.

The two men allegedly manipulated the price of the hotel, which resulted in the FIC payment in excess of millions of ringgit.
