Out-of-wedlock kids can use father's name

The Court of Appeal found that a child conceived out of wedlock can be registered with his or her father's surname.

The court said the NRD need not heed a National Fatwa Council edict which states this cannot be so if the child is born in the first six months of the parents' marriage.

The government is appealing this decision at the Federal Court.

Sisters in Islam supported the Court of Appeal's decision, which it said was compassionate, for the best interest of the child and in line with Islam.

Third letter of support for 1MDB?

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua wants the government to clarify if a third letter of support was secretly issued for 1MDB, as the United States Department of Justice in its lawsuit refers to a letter to support a US$975 million loan from a Deutsche Bank-led consortium in September 2014.

Meanwhile, explaining the rejection of 30 questions on 1MDB, Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia said Parliament is the best place to discuss 1MDB but there must not be "accusations, assumptions or offensive" elements which violate standing orders.

He also said there is nothing stopping the Public Accounts Committee to reopen investigations into 1MDB.

Boy, 7, accused of raping six-year-old

A seven-year-old boy is accused of raping a six-year-old girl in Malacca, after the girl complained of pain in her vagina which she said was caused by the boy's penis.

Meanwhile, 13,272 children were raped between 2010 and May 2017, and thousands of others were victims of sexual abuse.

In the same period, there were 6,014 molestation cases; 1,796 cases of incest; and 1,152 cases of unnatural sex.

There are 1.78 million documented migrant workers in Malaysia as at June 30 this year, the government said, with Indonesia, Nepal and Bangladesh being the top sending countries.

The two accused in the Kim Jong-Nam murder case will enter their pleas at the Shah Alam Court.
