Gatco settlers claim continued harassment by 'thugs' in land row

Kampung Gatco settlers today submitted a memorandum to the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC), claiming police inaction on complaints of continued initimidation by "thugs" allegedly employed by the land owner they are involved in a tussle with.

The settlers claim that the thugs, wielding parangs, had shown up at their settlement on Monday night – the same day the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted a 60-day stay pending a hearing of their appeal at the Court of Appeal, scheduled on Sept 14.

The stay barred any tree cutting or clearing activity from being carried out on the land until the appeal is heard.

Six days prior to the ruling, at least 20 men had also disturbed the settlers while brandishing sticks and iron rods, the settlers claimed...
