Tanjung Bungah assemblyperson Teh Yee Cheu said he will quit DAP when the Penang state assembly is dissolved.

"I am not in line with the party leadership. There have been no reforms. It's time for me to go," Teh is quoted as saying in an interview with The Star.

The report said he will remain as a DAP assemblyperson until the end of his term as his mandate was under the party.

"Since people voted me in as a DAP man, I will speak as one," he is quoted as saying.

Teh said he will remain a politician after leaving the DAP but will not join BN or any parties friendly to BN.

"I also have no intention of joining any Pakatan Harapan party, nor will I become an independent candidate.

"That leaves me with a small, narrow road, but I cannot tell you now because I am still a DAP man," The Star reported Teh aa saying.

Teh was described as a maverick in DAP, often expressing views that diverged with that of his party.

He was also vocal about hillside development under the DAP-led Penang government.

Teh was back in the limelight following the deadly Tanjung Bungah landslide at a hillside development project on Oct 21 that claimed 11 lives.

The DAP lost a total of eight elected representatives in the current term.

In September 2013, Luyang assemblyperson Hiew King Cheu quit DAP and later joined MCA.

In October 2016, Likas assemblyperson Junz Wong exited DAP to join Parti Warisan Sabah.

In August 2017, Kepayan assemblyperson Edwin Bosi also quit DAP. He remains an independent.

Hiew, Wong and Edwin are from Sabah.

In Malacca, Kota Malacca MP Sim Tong Him and three state assemblypersons - Goh Leong San (Duyong), Lim Jak Wong (Bachang) and Chin Choong Seong (Kesidang) - left DAP in February 2017 after a long-running dispute with the central leadership.

In Selangor, DAP in May 2016 sacked Teluk Datuk assemblyperson Loh Chee Heng for alleged "breach of public trust". Loh denied wrongdoing.
