Two youths claim trial to committing mischief by fire at surau

Two youths were charged at the Sessions Court today to committing mischief by fire at a surau in Damansara Damai here two weeks ago.

D Tibanraj and R Darshan, both 19, however, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial after the charge was read out to them through a court interpreter before judge Hilmiah Yusof.

They were charged with committing mischief by fire and allegedly causing damage to Surau Al-Huda at the Impian Apartment in Damansara Damai in Petaling Jaya at 6.10am on Nov 19.

They were charged under Section 436 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and is liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The court allowed both accused bail of RM8,000 each with one surety and ordered them to report to the nearest police station once a month.

Jan 10, 2018, was set for mention.
