Yoursay: Now that we’re done with Forex RCI, time for 1MDB RCI

YOURSAY | ‘If the forex scandal is of national interest, then 1MDB is of global interest.’

Forex RCI blames Nor Yakcop, implicates Dr M and Anwar

Aktan: So BN has successfully concluded the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the forex losses. That loss has magically managed to outshine the 1MDB losses. Exactly how much the figures for both cases is still not known.

But the RCI wants to implicate the key players so that they are probed. Shouldn't it cover the whole cabinet at that time? No?

Anonymous 2482231502494173: Forex losses are a part of doing business. In any business, you may lose money or make a profit, whereas 1MDB clearly shows that money was looted and went to a few individuals’ bank accounts.

So, there must be an RCI on this matter to expose the truth to Malaysian taxpayers.

If they can solve the problem of this ‘more than two decades’ matter in four months, then the government can definitely solve 1MDB in one month - if they are sincere.

Kangkung: Indeed, Umno's RCI is able to complete its investigation on a 30-year-old forex losses case in a few months. They completed their investigation without even the slightest hitch. I think even a developed country would not be able to repeat this feat.

Now, with this razor-blade efficiency, a commission must also be set up immediately to investigate the 1MDB losses and irregularities.

The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has seized US$540 million (RM2.3 billion) in assets including artwork, jewellery, a yacht worth US$165 million, and film rights purchased with funds embezzled from 1MDB. We need to recover our money.

Anonymous 2475871497500343: We don't want to know about foreign exchange (forex) trading losses happening in donkey years that could not be recovered. We want a Royal Commission of Inquiry on 1MDB to recover the money frozen by DOJ.

If Prime Minister Najib Razak doesn’t care about recovering our money, why not elect a new government that can do the job? How long are we going to tolerate the abuses, nonsense and injustice inflicted on us?

Negarawan: I wonder if this a ‘Royal Commission of Inquiry’, or a ‘Rushed Conspiracy to Implicate’?

The outcome of the RCI on the forex losses reflects very badly on the ability of the Umno government to manage the finances of the country prudently, then and now.

In this sense, the politically-motivated intention of Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) in forming the RCI has backfired on his own party.

That former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his ex-deputy Anwar Ibrahim are implicated is a known outcome of this RCI right at the outset.

Anonymous 1719401496919916: Yes, even before the RCI started, those people sitting on the RCI panel already had a conclusion.

Judging from the statements and comments made by some of the members, especially Mohd Sidek Hassan, during the RCI, we could already conclude that somehow Mahathir and Anwar would be implicated. So, does it surprise most Malaysians? No, of course not.

This forex loss was to stave off an attack on the country. The amount of losses is known. While for 1MDB, someone has been implicated by having RM2.6 billion transferred into his account. Someone benefited.

1MDB could turn out to be a bottomless pit. Already, audited accounts are not available for 2015 and 2016. Why?

There were calls for an RCI on the 1MDB scandal, so why no action? The rulers had also commented on 1MDB several times, yet their calls were ignored. Why?

Hamzah Paiman: "... he (Nor Mohamed Yakcop) could not have carried on for such a long time without the direct or tacit approval of his superiors and/or other persons in authority..."

Then what about 1MDB? The same thing applies.

The RCI has opened up a can of worms for the masses to attack MO1 now. It is a stupid move by the RCI to implicate Mahathir and Anwar which would now be used to the hilt by the masses to attack Najib. BN is going to lose more votes, I'm afraid.

Peninsular Rhino: The conclusions are as expected from the time the idea of the RCI formation was announced. The purpose was none other than to place blame on the former PM who’s now actively campaigning for the removal of MO1, who is the current PM.

The losses of money on the forex trading are not the same as the grand theft in 1MDB. The theft in 1MDB is a case of criminal breach of trust (CBT), but it was swept under the carpet.

So, what now? Arrest the men implicated?

Newday: Talk about basing outcomes on the thinnest and flimsiest evidence. The RCI committee "is of the opinion" - well, opinion is just that - an opinion, so where is the evidence?

There is zero, but somehow the RCI managed to implicate Mahathir and Anwar of guilt by association because they were there at the time.

Well, come on then - charge them with something and they will have their day in court and the charges will be thrown out.

Meanwhile, when is the 1MDB RCI going to happen? This is relevant to today and with a lot more clear evidence for the RCI committee to develop outcomes that are far more substantial than mere “opinion”.

Jedi Yoda: Whatever that this RCI is trying to establish has not on in any way diminished the rakyat's hunger for truth and anger over the juicier scandal of 1MDB.

If the forex scandal is of national interest, then 1MDB is of global interest.

If Mahathir's government has quietly concealed the truth as alleged, Najib's government is doing it in broad daylight under everybody's nose. Not just that, he allegedly brazenly lied about the RM2.6 billion donation.

Oscar Kilo: So the forex losses ended up in whose bank account?
