Ahead of the upcoming 14th general election, electoral reform coalition Bersih today launched its latest campaign calling on Malaysians to vote as a way to defeat electoral fraud.

Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah in her speech said the campaign would involve a nationwide tour to engage with voters through casual coffee shop discussions, explaining the arguments behind the importance of voting in GE14.

After going through two elections and five major street rallies, Maria said Bersih has emerged as the country's largest democratic movement and expressed confidence it could keep up the momentum for change and institutional reforms.

"We can do it again and we must unite all our forces," she said referencing the campaign's tagline, "Satukan Kuasa, Kalahkan Penipuan" (Unite forces, fight fraud).

"We also hope that after these sessions, each person can help to personally call 10 other people to convince them that they need to go out and vote," she said.

During the launch held at the Petaling Jaya City Council Hall, Bersih steering committee co-chairperson Shahrul Aman Mohd Saari called up radio personality Patrick Teoh to demonstrate how the campaign was supposed to be carried out.

Teoh, who pledged his support for the campaign, also commented on the #UndiRosak movement calling voters to spoil their ballots.

"Although they say to their listeners they should spoil their votes, what the campaigners did not say is what would happen to Malaysia in the next five years?

"Can we imagine what would happen?" he asked. 

Aside from the campaign to call voters, Maria said Bersih would also continue with its objections against the ongoing re-delineation exercise in Selangor, as well as to train more election observers.

At the event, Bersih unveiled a short animated feature titled "Jom Undi" as part of its campaign.

Also present were Pakatan Harapan leaders, including PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, PKR vice-president Tian Chua, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and Amanah women's wing chief Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.
