MCA's Chong starts petition to bring M’sian drug mule home

A petition has been launched to gather support to bring home Malaysian Marina Jamaluddin, 39, who is currently serving a sentence in a prison in Nepal for being a drug mule.

The organiser of the petition, MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon, said Marina was arrested in mid-2015 and is currently serving a 20-year prison term in the country.

"I urge all citizens in this country to give their support by signing the petition which would be sent to the Nepal Ambassador to Malaysia for the transfer of Marina to a prison here.

"Individuals or organisations can provide support by signing the petition which was also created online at Change.org," he told reporters at a media conference here today.

Marina was arrested at 7pm on April 6, 2015 by authorities at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal after she found trying to smuggle 11kg of cocaine.

Chong, who is also caretaker deputy education minister and BN candidate for Seremban, said the matter had been discussed with caretaker deputy foreign minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican and caretaker deputy home minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed to bring Marina home before Parliament was dissolved recently.

"We are trying our best to use whatever means, including the exchange of prisoners, to bring Marina back," he said.

Meanwhile, Marina's father, Jamaluddin Abd Malek, 65, was very hopeful his daughter would be brought back home.

"I appeal to the country's top leadership, (caretaker) prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and (caretaker) deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to help bring my daughter home," he said.
