GE14 | Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's political secretary Wong Nai Chee has been confirmed as BN's candidate in Alor Gajah, replacing incumbent Koh Nai Kwong despite grassroots protests.

This was according to the Malacca BN candidate list for the 14th general election, unveiled by Malacca BN chief Idris Haron in Ayer Keroh today.

Koh was instead fielded in the state seat of Machap Jaya, which MCA won by a razor-thin 152-vote majority in the last general election.

Koh had won the Alor Gajah parliamentary seat by 11,597 votes in 2013.

Notably, Malacca MCA chief Gan Tian Loo will not be contesting in GE14.

Gan was narrowly defeated in the state seat of Duyong in the last general election, losing by only 205 votes.

Meanwhile, Idris confirmed that former Malacca chief minister Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam will contest in the parliamentary seat in Hang Tuah Jaya (formerly Bukit Katil) after his surprise defeat there in the last general election.

Then, Ali Rustam was defeated by PKR's Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin by a 5,447-vote majority.

However, he stands a better chance this time after the recent redelineation exercise.

This is because the polling districts of Taman Melaka Baru, Batu Berendam, Taman Merdeka, Taman Asean and Malim Jaya have been moved into neighbouring Kota Melaka, a long-time opposition stronghold.

Collectively, the five polling stations made up 13,831 PKR votes and 5,856 BN votes in the last general election.

This would leave Shamsul with a 7,975-vote deficit, effectively erasing his 5,447-vote majority win and could even give BN up to a 1,242-vote surplus.

Idris himself will defend his state seat of Sungai Udang.
