Yoursay: Was Najib’s poem a tribute or warning to Pak Lah?

YOURSAY | ‘Abdullah will be remembered for his deafening silence on 1MDB.’

Najib takes a poetic swipe at Dr M, lauds Pak Lah's loyalty

Vijay47: Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak just does not cease to amaze - who would have thought that a Bugis seafarer could also wax lyrical about mentors, foes, and ancient mariners even as the fortress walls begin to crumble?

This surely must be part of the BN spirit that caretaker deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recently reminded us of. Then again, it may be a suggestion of Arab cultural influences.

And singing the paean with standing-ovation talent is MIC’s inimitable Dr S Subramaniam; alas, what a shame yon MyPPP president M Kayveas could not contribute to the chorus.

How poetic your subtle reference to buckets, Najib, bringing to mind Selangor’s water problems in contrast to the situation you are more familiar with – the raging floods in Kelantan as you shed your copious tears playing golf in sunny Hawaii.

Continue your Shakespearean talents, sir, though you might want to hone them to include dirges and other expressions of lamentation as forsooth, the moment draws close when thy Umno kicks the bucket.

Simple Malaysian: Is loyalty to party more important than loyalty to country? Many of us are of the opinion that Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s loyalty to "bangsa dan negara" (nation and country) far exceeds party importance.

Does former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi subscribe to that too? Perhaps it is better he stays in the background and minds his grandchildren, as advised by many Umno members to Mahathir.

Anonymous_c9b96c38: A tribute or a warning to Pak Lah? Rakyat had high hopes for Pak Lah but, alas, he could not control his party.

As an individual, I believe he is still well-liked by the rakyat. But Pak Lah’s deafening silence on 1MDB is truly sad. He will be remembered not for his efforts to clamp down on corruption and “Islam Hadhari”, but for his silence.

SusahKes: Hey, Malaysian Official 1. Saya pun ada puisi. Nak dengar? (I too have a poem. Would you like to hear it?)

Rakyat sedih, melaung hari-hari;

Keperitan hidup disebabkan GST.

Kita kena bayar setiap kali;

Banding dengan orang China dapat free.

Apa nak buat, pemimpin sifat kleptokrasi;

Rakyat derita kerana nak tutup lubang 1MDB.

The rakyat are sad, crying out every day;

The hardships of life caused by the Goods and Services Tax.

We have to pay every time;

Compared to people from China, who get it free.

What to do, a leader with traits of kleptocracy;

The rakyat suffer in order to cover up the holes of 1MDB.

Hastily-arranged meet leaves some PKR candidates in the lurch

Anonymous_1419577444: The difference between a political party that is a "government in waiting" and an "opposition party" lies in the mentality of its leaders.

In a "government in waiting", its leaders are united and focus on doing what is right for the country and rakyat.

They are not fussy about formal position or title. They set aside ego, personal differences and quest for power. Resources are shared and deployed where it is needed. It is a "we" mentality.

In an "opposition party", its leaders are focused on finding fault with the government without offering alternative solutions.

Staying in a position of power is important because it will allow a leader to control resources and speak loudly. It is a "me" mentality.

Now, which one does PKR aspire to be - a "government in waiting" or the "opposition"?

NA: PKR is not a party without flaws. It has some way to go to be solid. It is still a young party, relative to DAP. And we all know that factions or cliques exist.

As with all political parties, they have very good leaders and they also have lesser leaders. They are, after all, politicians and playing politics is their day job.

However, PKR is still a key component of Pakatan Harapan and we need to give them all the support that they need.

PKR is, as it has always been, the tie that binds all the other component parties in Harapan. It is the party that brought us all here.

Now that the candidates’ list is out and official, we should all close ranks and make sure that all others close ranks as well.

We have the mother of all elections ahead of us. The time has come to take on the enemy in dark blue and green, and stop fighting among ourselves.

Rakyat Susah: It is all settled now as the formal listing is out. PKR has not been in the driver’s position before, hence, it is facing a good problem. It is merely the media from BN making a big fuss over the events.

Learn from DAP; only its top leaders can give statements. Other than that, the rest all just work hard. We do not see DAP lawmakers Teresa Kok, Gobind Singh Deo or others making any statement.

VGV: Whatever your complaints are, please put it aside or thrash it out with the top leadership. There is no use washing dirty linen in public. That would give room for BN and PAS to talk low of PKR.

Get moving ahead and put all differences and petty things aside. The motive is to overthrow BN for the good of the country and the people.

Due to time constraints, everything has been done in a rush. So don't create problems over small matters. Forgive and forget - move ahead for a better future for our children.
