Rarely would have anyone thought that the issue of “not living next door to Alice” – oops - rather “in the same house as Alice” as a legally married couple - would become fodder in the upcoming general election.

Recent personal comments made by Sarawak Peace Party’s (SPP) Sibu candidate Priscilla Lau against the DAP candidate for Lanang, Alice Lau (above), seem to have sparked “The Battle of the Laus” between Sibu and Lanang.

Priscilla Lau on April 28 told The Star daily that Alice may be a good representative, but her heart was now in Melaka where her husband lives.

She further said: “Your heart is where your home is. But my heart is in Sibu. I was in England for 10 years and also spent five years in Australia but I came back in 1995 and have never left Sibu since,” she said.

Priscilla said this to hint that Alice who lives away from her husband in Sarawak would not be able to give her all to the voters in Lanang as her heart would always be in Melaka where her husband lives.

When asked to comment on Priscilla’s comments today, Alice speaking via WhatsApp and seemingly provoked, spewed this vitriolic cardiac take: “Even a cardiologist will not know ‘where’ my heart is and what more to say, Priscilla telling everybody ‘where’ my heart is. Let me spell it out, my heart is in Sibu, it is in Lanang.

“My husband is from Malacca but I am not staying in Malacca. All the while I have been living in Sibu.”

She added: “I had never moved to Malacca since I got married in 2014. I do go back once in a while, but I spend less than 15 days in a year in Malacca.”

“It is unfair for her to judge me and question where my heart is, as ‘she is not me’.

'Attacking me'

Alice reiterated: “Even a cardiologist will not know ‘where’ my heart is and what more to say, Priscilla telling everybody ‘where’ my heart is. Let me spill it out, my heart is Sibu, it is in Lanang.

“My husband’s heart is also in Sibu and Lanang as he comes to visit me and our son in Sibu, ‘all the time’.

Alice said she and her son have lived in Sibu all the time.

“Priscilla should check with Immigration, before ‘attacking me’. The records are there of my exit and entry, and I want her to know that I am not a ‘jumpsuit’ candidate,” said Alice, audibly disturbed.

Alice also challenged Priscilla to check with the Immigration Department to find out how many times her husband travels to Sarawak per year.

“Instead of stooping so low to ‘attack’ me like this, it would be more ‘decent’ of her to check my track record in the past five years,” Alice added.

Alice married Malacca businessman Loo Chee Wee of on Aug 31, 2014.

SPP is contesting in the parliamentary constituencies of Sibu and Lanang.

Alice will be facing off with Priscilla’s party comrade Jamie Tiew and BN’s Kelvin Kong whereas Priscilla will be taking on BN’s Andrew Wong and DAP’s Oscar Ling.
