I never dreamed Rafidah would campaign for me, says Hannah

11pm: TTDI, Kuala Lumpur - Harapan Segambut candidate Hannah Yeoh addresses over 3,000 residents and voters who have gathered at a local field along Lorong Burhanuddin Helmi 8 here tonight.

Yeoh takes the stage after former minister Rafidah Aziz and Hakam chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan - two women who she says she used to read about as a student, lawyer and young politician.

"I never dreamt that one day they (Rafidah and Ambiga) would be supporting my bid for a parliament seat.

"I joined politics just for two reasons alone, that is to fight corruption and to fight race-based policies," she tells the cheering crowd.

Yeoh also denies claims that she is "running away" from Subang Jaya after serving the state constituency for 10 years.

Instead, Yeoh says her move to a parliamentary seat is meant to further the agenda which had been implemented during her two terms as Subang Jaya assemblyperson and Selangor state assembly speaker.

‘Sounds of Segamat’: BN music vs Harapan ceramah

11pm: Segamat, Johor - A BN operations centre in Felda Palong Timur is blasting music, as Pakatan Harapan holds a ceramah at its operations centre next door (photo).

The sound from the operations room drowns out any sound from the ceramah for passers-by.

The Harapan speakers, which include PKR Segamat candidate Edmund Santhara, and Bersatu Buloh Kasap state assembly candidate Norsamsu Mohd Yusoff, are not using loudspeakers for their speeches.

About 30 people attend the ceramah.

In 2013 BN received 2,936 votes from Felda Palong Timur, while PKR received 257 votes.

4,000 people show up for Dr M ceramah in Jerlun

10.30pm: Jerlun, Kedah - Some 4,000 people (photo) have turned up at a ceramah at Dataran Haji Salleh Lebai Junus here where Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad is due to speak.

Though dimly lit, much of the space is packed, and more still appear to be listening to campaign speeches from across the road.

Also present are Harapan candidates for Jerlun, Kota Siputeh, and Ayer Hitam, namely Mukhriz Mahathir, Dr Salmee Said, and A Aziz Mohamad.

Ex-FT minister reminds Setiawangsa of his track record

10.30pm: Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur - A multiracial crowd of about 150 people has gathered in Dataran Seri Semarak, PPR Semarak to hear BN candidate for the Setiawangsa parliamentary seat Zulhasnan Rafique (center in photo) speak.

The crowd slowly grows, but there are also many empty seats.

Zulhasnan, who came with his wife and grandchildren, urges the residents here to remember what he did when he was an MP.

He said that as a former Federal Territories minister for two terms he had tried to resolve the residents’ problems here, including helping to make the Dataran Semarak field a reality.

Zulhasnan said he would look into the problem of residents here in obtaining strata titles. There is no mention of the opposition.

Prior to Zulhasnan's speech, another BN speaker says that earlier today the coalition helped sell chicken at RM5 a bird to the residents here.

BN candidates sing songs for 'Democracy Concert'

9.15pm: Rasah Jaya, Negeri Sembilan - BN is having a "Democracy Concert" where candidates are expected to sing motivational theme songs.

The BN candidates present include candidates Chong Sin Woon (Seremban) (photo), Ng Kian Nam (Rasah), Yap Siok Moy (Rahang), Ho Choy Shin (Mambau), and Mah Kah Keong (Bukit Kepayang).

Sin Chew Daily reports that Mah, Yap, Ng and Ho sing a song titled "Ali, Ah Kao and Muthu", which expresses the candidates' hopes for democracy and the 14th general election.

Former deputy finance minister and MCA former state chief Wong See Wah is also present and gives a speech.

The event is held at a covered basketball court in Rasah Jaya, which has attracted 120 people, half of them wearing BN campaign T-shirts.

Meanwhile, DAP is also having a "Democracy Night" event in Seremban Jaya, which is about 10 kilometres away.

Karpal's daughter agrees with Najib - can't run gov't on lies

9.10pm: TTDI, Kuala Lumpur - Daughter of the late DAP stalwart Karpal Singh, Sangeet Kaur Deo, draws loud cheers from the crowd as she delivers a powerful speech in support of Harapan candidate for Segambut, Hannah Yeoh.

"This time, my friends, it’s Malaysians versus BN. I read today or yesterday (caretaker) prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said we can't run a government or nation based on lies.

"For once I agree with him," she quips.

Sangeet, who followed in her father and older brother's footsteps as a lawyer, has little difficulties building up a rapport with the crowd.

"Lies is what we have been fed for the last what? 10 years?," she asks, and someone in the crowd responds with "60 years!."

"60 years is too long to remain in power my friends," she continues, and another supporter continues the famous quote,..

"...absolute power corrupts absolutely!."

She also urges the multi-ethnic crowd to never forget about the various scandals under Najib's administration, as well as the various unfulfilled promises.

The crowd who gathers on the field at Taman Tun Dr Ismail here has swelled to over 3,000 people.

Daim goes on the stump for first DAP candidate

9.10pm: Ayer Hitam, Johor - After campaigning for Bersatu and PKR candidates in the last few days, former minister Daim Zainuddin goes on the stump for a DAP candidate, for the very first time.

"I am here because my friend Liew Chin Tong is here, I hope you will vote for him," he tells thousands who were present.

Liew is DAP's candidate for Ayer Hitam.

Tailoring his message to a Chinese audience, Daim takes aim at the MCA.

"In the last general election, MCA says if the Chinese do not support them, they will not join the cabinet.

"But when they were rejected by the Chinese, they quietly rejoined the cabinet. How can you trust people like that?" he asks.

Lim: Najib denies but Malay tsunami is happening

9.00pm: Bukit Indah, Pulai - The after rain muddy field fails to deter the almost 4,000 mainly-Chinese crowd from attending Carnival Harapan in Taman Rekreasi Bukit Indah.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang speaks as hundreds of them wave the PKR flags.

Lim says the Malay tsunami is happening despite the denial by caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"We want Chinese, Indian, Malay, Sabah and Sarawak tsunami... I am not in Iskandar Puteri since the nomination day started. Instead, I have gone to other areas such as Johor Jaya, Simpang Renggam, Kluang, Buloh Kasap, Rasah and Nilai.

"In the past seven days, I have travelled to 28 parliamentary seats. This is the first time in 61 years of national history we have a chance to change the government."

1,000 cheer Dr Ismail's grandson in TTDI

8.30pm: TTDI, Kuala Lumpur - About 1,000 people gather at a field in Taman Tun Dr Ismail for a ceramah featuring Harapan candidate Hannah Yeoh as well as former minister Rafidah Aziz.

Others set to speak include lawyer Syahredzan Johan, Hakam chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan and Sangeet Kaur Deo, daughter of the late DAP stalwart Karpal Singh.

The emcee also announces the surprise appearance of Bersatu's supreme council member Tariq Ismail, grandson of the late deputy prime minister Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, to cheers from the crowd as he takes to the stage.

"This taman was named after my late grandfather. Even though my grandfather was from Umno, I was never with Umno," he says.

Tariq (photo) tells the crowd although caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is his relative, he chooses to follow his grandfather's example to act based on principle.

"I would like to tell you all a story. This was before I was born, my grandfather was having breakfast when a woman came up to him with a bag of vegetables.

"Tun (Dr Ismail) asked her, 'Your child is in prison right?' And she said 'Yes'. So he turned her away.

"My grandmother asked him, 'Why were you so cruel?' And my grandfather told her he was appointed to uphold justice and he can't act to reverse the court's decision," he says.

"And that is why the best leaders must be one that holds on to their principles," he says.

Historian Khoo Kay Kim attends Harapan rally in TTDI

7.50PM: TTDI, Kuala Lumpur - Renowned historian Khoo Kay Kim was seen among the crowd tonight (photo) at Pakatan Harapan’s rally here at Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

When asked by Malaysiakini, he said that it is difficult to anticipate the outcome of this election, given recent developments - namely the actions taken by Umno against former ministers Rafidah Aziz, Rais Yatim and Daim Zainuddin for campaigning with Pakatan Harapan.

“It is difficult to anticipate what is happening, so you have to wait,” he said.

When asked about his predictions for the election, Khoo replied, “I have asked around and nobody can really tell me. I’m so surprised to see so many young people getting involved (in politics).”

Two Harapan candidates’ banners damaged in Penang

7.45pm: Batu Lanchang and Batu Uban, Penang - Banners belonging to Pakatan Harapan candidates Ong Ah Teong (Batu Lancang) and A Kumaresan (Batu Uban) have been damaged by unknown individuals.

DAP’s Ong, a former Penang Island municipal councillor said that he had lodged a police report over his damaged banners.

"We urge the police to investigate the matter immediately, it happened in front of the McDonald's outlet along Green Lane.

"The police may asked the help of the McDonald’s management to share the CCTV recording along the area," Ong said.

Kumaresan has yet to lodge a police report, but the PKR candidate’s banner in front of Petronas Bukit Gambir had multiple slashes across it.

"This is a signal that our opponents are feeling defeat.

"I'm cool and urge my team not to react because we must do politics in a rational and professional manner.

"I will not be replacing the billboard because I do not have a RM2.6 billion donor," quipped the former city councillor.

DAP's Nga transforms into 'Iron Man'

6.30pm: Bercham, Perak - DAP candidate for Bercham Ong Boon Piow has placed a picture of Iron Man over Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming's banner.

This was after the Election Commission said Nga's picture cannot appear in the constituency as he is not contesting there.

"Yesterday, the EC said our poster on the Bercham service centre cannot have Nga's picture as he is not a candidate, after receiving a complaint from MCA," he says.

In protest, Ong says, they replaced Nga's picture with one of Iron Man instead of taking down the banner. The new image is accompanied by the words "Nga Man."

Dr M visits grave of Fadzil Noor

6pm - Pokok Sena, Kedah - Pakatan Harapan chief Dr Mahathir Mohamad makes a brief visit to the grave of the late PAS leader Fadzil Noor at Kolej Islam Darul Ulum.

With him are his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, Amanah Pokok Sena candidate Mahfuz Omar, Fadzil's son and Amanah Permatang Pasir candidate Faiz Fadzil, and other members of Fadzil's family.

Prior to Mahathir’s arrival, Faiz tells reporters that the visit is something the family had been long awaited, as it signifies the former premier realising his mistake and making amends.

Later at a ceramah in Kampung Bukit, about 15 minutes' drive away, Mahathir tells an audience of about 300 gathered on a muddy field that Fadzil is a religious scholar of "extraordinary" knowledge.

"He became my religious consultant. When I found something I didn't understand, I invited him to my house to talk about religion, religious interpretation, and so on.

"His knowledge was extraordinary, and that was why he provided good leadership when he was the PAS president," he says.

Syed Saddiq-Razali showdown set for tomorrow

5.45pm: Muar, Johor – The debate between the Pakatan Harapan and BN candidates for Muar, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Razali Ibrahim, is set to take place tomorrow.

The debate will be held at 9pm at the Muar Trader’s Hotel.

Yesterday, Syed Saddiq had written a letter to Razali asking that the debate is held at the Mayang Sari Resort in Parit Kassim.

In response to the letter, Razali had said that he would need to check his schedule first before confirming his attendance at the debate.

The poster for the event seems to not feature PAS candidate Abdul Aziz Talib, who previously told Malaysiakini that he would have to get his party’s blessing before accepting the challenge.

Kebun Bunga candidate inspects safety of bike lanes

5.30pm: Kebun Bunga, Penang - BN candidate for Kebun Bunga Ooi Zhi Yi and his team get on their bikes to inspect the safety of bicycle lanes at several locations, including the Penang Botanic Gardens, Jalan Air Terjun and Taman Jesselton.

Ooi says it is crucial to study the safety and practicability of current bicycle lanes and infrastructure, and decided to experience it today in order to identify the ways to improve the situation.

"The Penang government has designated several routes as bicycle lanes in the state, however, these lanes are not effectively designed.

"We can notice that cyclists are riding along with vehicles due to the lanes simply designated on the main roads, he said," he says.

"These lanes endanger not only the cyclists, but also the drivers.

"Health is invaluable to every one of us, we want to take this opportunity to promote the healthy lifestyle to more people," he adds.

Rais not sacked from Umno, just being investigated

5pm: Petaling Jaya - While earlier announcing the sacking of Umno veterans Rafidah Aziz, Daim Zainuddin and Rais Yatim from the party for supporting the opposition, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor now says only two have been shown the door.

Rais, meanwhile, is still being investigated by the party.

The Star quotes the party secretary-general saying that only Rafidah and Daim have been terminated while the party is still trying to determine is Rais is colluding with Harapan to derail BN's chances in the coming general election.

K'tan PAS: Can't have two Islamist parties, 'like having two solat'

3.43pm: Kota Bharu, Kelantan - Kelantan PAS deputy commissioner II Johari Mat claims championing Islam is their turf, arguing there is no need for another Islamist party as PAS is already in existence.

Speaking at a press conference today, he likens this to having two prayer sessions at the same time, which he says is not possible.

If a mosque is holding prayer, then you cannot hold another at that time, he says.

He is commenting on Harapan-Amanah's candidate Nik Omar Nik Aziz running for Chempaka against PAS.

Johari continues his analogy saying having two prayer sessions concurrently would not be legitimate.

“Then there would be two imam – only the first imam is legitimate,” he claims.

“(Likewise), PAS champions Islam, so there should rightfully not be any other party that challenges PAS. Support us, yes, but not to weaken and break us up,” he says.

BN supports Penang Forum’s Agenda 2018

3.30pm: Jalan Macalister, Penang - Penang BN candidates have come out in support of Penang Forum's Agenda 2018, which lists demands related to the three principles of good governance, social inclusion and sustainable development.

Penang Forum, a loose network of local NGOs, has called on those elected to office after the polls to act upon and deliver these demands.

According to state BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, the coalition's manifesto is consistent with about 70 percent of Penang Forum’s Agenda 2018 report.

These include the agenda on housing, hillside control, traffic and flood, women and youth.

"We have gone through the comprehensive document.

"Other topics like land reclamation, density, open space, generally, we are on the same page with the Penang Forum Agenda.

"In fact, we are on the same page with about 70 percent of Penang Forum Agenda 2018," the Tanjung Bungah candidate says at a press conference.

"We have not listed about another 35 percent of the Penang Forum Agenda in our manifesto, but we are generally agreeable to their recommendations," he says.

He further alleges that the name of a deceased person still appears on the roll as a Seri Kembangan voter.

Rais' sacking 'kick in the teeth', says son

2.40pm: Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan - Danni Rais calls the ealier report on the possible sacking of his father Rais Yatim a "kick in the teeth" and "drastic".

This, says the Kg Gagu Umno branch Youth chief, is because Rais had always fought hard for the party "with his blood, sweat and tears".

"Sacked on what grounds? For being critical on issues that the rakyat themselves have been wondering for so long," he writes on social media.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has informed the media today he issued a directive to terminate the memberships of heavyweight party veterans Rais, Daim Zainuddin and Rafidah Aziz yesterday for supporting Harapan.

Rais, meanwhile responds saying the sacking is of no consequence to him as the party was legally now a "non-entity."

“As someone part of DAP’s publicity team, I realised we are not distributing truthful information.

In a statement, Gooi says the title and subtitles were clearly intended to incite racial hatred and discord amongst the Malay electorate.

"Such reporting is not only highly irresponsible during this sensitive period but it is also criminal in nature and stern action must be taken against them under the anti fake news act," Gooi says.

He further calls on the paper to apologise, and the caretaker communications and multimedia ministry issue a reprimand against the Malay daily.

I have faith in Pos M’sia, says EC chair on postal vote complaints

In the Lembah Pantai seat alone, which Bukit Aman is part of, 30 percent of the entire electorate have already cast their ballots.

When quizzed on whether the EC will take action on polling agents seen to be dressed in clothes bearing campaign slogans, he declines to comment as he had “not seen” such occurrences.

Hashim also says that those unhappy with alleged election bribes offered by Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos to voters in Sekinchan earlier this week should lodge a report with MACC.

On reports from postal voters saying they had yet to receive their ballot papers, he acknowledges the complaints, but denies that the EC is facing any “technical problems.”

“The time frame has not expired yet...We have given the mandate (of mailing ballot papers) to Pos Malaysia, I have faith in them,” he adds.

12pm: Pulai, Johor - Caretaker deputy home minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed is unperturbed about Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamed’s letter urging that security forces personnel be allowed to “cast their votes without any motivation or restraint.”

"Nobody will remember Mahathir. He was prime minister for 22 years, but he ended tenure 14 years ago.

"Many young police officers don't remember him already. The public won’t know whether Mahathir was with the opposition or the other way around," the BN parliamentary candidate for Pulai tells reporters after visiting Marine Police headquarters (Zone 2) in Pengkalan Rinting today.

Around 1,700 police personnel are eligible to cast their ballots in Pulai, which has an electorate of 106,286 voters.

Polling agents are not allowed to wear clothing that appear supportive of any party.

Harapan-PKR Lembah Pantai candidate Fahmi Fadzil urges the Election Commission to take action.

“Wilayah Di Hatiku is very clearly a campaign slogan for BN in KL.

“The EC should stop them and send out a strong warning to the BN candidate, this is against regulations.

11.00am: Shah Alam, Selangor - Police take down two banners showing an image of Khalid Samad placed next to the words "Polis Malaysia anjing" (Malaysian police are dogs).

The banners, meant to give the impression that the Pakatan Harapan candidate for Shah Alam had uttered the words, were erected near the Shah Alam district police headquarters.

"Some 2,000 police and their spouses are going to vote at the police station and the banners are meant to provoke them," he tells Malaysiakini.

He believes the banners were put up last night. They police removed the banners early this morning.
