The sacking of veterans Rafidah Aziz and Daim Zainuddin as well as Rais Yatim from Umno, now it being in a state of limbo, is a bad move.

The sackings also come at a wrong time, says Sarawak political analyst, Peter Minos.

According to Peter, these sackings do not bring any good to the ruling BN coalition, especially now, days before Malaysians cast their vote on Wednesday.

He told Malaysiakini today that the sackings will create voter sympathy for the Umno veterans and as can be seen now - they are already gaining popular traction on the ground with these jettisoned members taking to the Pakatan Harapan camp.

“I must personally admit it, that is because of the huge ‘unexplained crowds’ attending Harapan ceramahs in the peninsular, and with many critical issues such as 1MDB and the high cost of living triggered by the GST and unconvincingly explained by BN, there is ‘a quite fear’ that the worse may happen on the peninsula side.

“However, I of course hope that it will not happen, speaking from the point of being a BN-PBB man.

“I am sincerely concerned of the many uncertainties that may befall Malaysia if the worst should actually happen,” said Peter.

However, Peter said that whatever happens on May 9, on the other side of the South China Sea, Sarawakians must stay united and rally behind their top leader, Chief Minister Abang Johari Abang Openg.

He said: “We, in Sarawak must not be distracted by whatever turn of events in semanunjung on May 9 but remain steadfast as Sarawakians.

“Whichever party gets the role to lead the federal government, Sarawakians must remain cohesive and maintain their political integrity.

“We must be strongly congealed as a state, and deal with whoever forms the government but be wary of whatever negotiations dealt out for Sarawak.

“We cannot afford to be sidelined or neglected in any way. Our only choice is political unity,” he added.

He said: “Sarawak is now stable but must be careful of Lim Kit Siang of DAP, Anwar Ibrahim of PKR and Hadi Awang of PAS.

“We should not be dragged into peninsular issues like 1MDB. That is their problem, nothing to do with us. They created it, so let them live with it,” he added.
