GE14 | Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Abang Openg issued a last-ditch call to Sarawakians to vote for the state’s continued stability and for an abounding future on the eve of polling day today.

In an impassioned plea, he told Sarawakians the unity shown by the people and the mandate given to BN in the last several years has allowed the state to fight for and regain some of its rights under the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“Some of these rights which were eroded either intentionally or unintentionally in the past have already been restored and with a further mandate from the people the full rights of the state can be regained.

“Our political stability and unity will allow us to go even further towards aggressively pursuing all of our rights that were eroded after 1963 and also for greater devolution of powers to Sarawak,” the chief minister said in a statement.

He reminded Sarawakians who will be casting their vote tomorrow that their choice will determine the success of the state’s transformation plans.

“It is we, who can decide how we want Sarawak to progress in the near future in today’s more globalised and competitive new world order, where technology will play an even more enhanced role.

“Only with the political stability and unity that we’ve shown thus far, that it is quite clear to all of us now that the state has benefited so much from the federal government.

“This is also a testimony of how the federal government acknowledges and cares about the aspirations of Sarawakians,” he added.

He urged Sarawakians to vote to continue improving their quality of life, safeguarding Sarawak’s rights and preserving harmony and unity.

Meanwhile, the chief minister who is also Satok assemblyperson said today the constituency will be given a facelift with more developments planned in the area.

“Public facilities and other amenities will be built, among other planned developments such as a connecting road from the new Matang bridge in Stapok to Segedup,” he said during the handing over of the newly rebuilt Kampung Kudei Baru Kemas kindergarten.

He said Segedup, which comes within the jurisdiction of the Satok constituency will be better connected after the link road is constructed and this will also enable the opening up of newer re-settlement areas.

On another note, he thanked all those involved in the rebuilding of the kindergarten which was damaged by floods.

He said the facility was rebuilt using the “industrial building system” which is a faster method of construction.
