An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale rocked Irian Jaya in Indonesia at 8.57 am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET).
It said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was 213 km west of Jayapura, Indonesia, and 2,374 km east of Semporna, Sabah.
The quake did not trigger any tsunami, it said.
This comes two days after an earlier earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 struck off the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
