Outgoing menteri besar Azmin Ali had an emotional farewell as he clocked out of the Selangor state secretariat office for the last time.

The symbolic move marked the end of his nearly four-year stint before he takes up his position as economic affairs minister in Putrajaya.

"Even though this is difficult, but I would like to inform that I have clocked out for the last time in this building and it is time for me to bid all of you farewell," he said at the state secretariat building.

At one point, Azmin was seen tearing up as he wiped his tears with a handkerchief.

In his speech, Azmin said he had met with the Selangor sultan this morning on the swearing in of his successor.

"This morning, I met the Selangor sultan to present to him the name of my replacement as Selangor menteri besar and he had consented for the swearing-in ceremony to be held tomorrow," he said.

Though not revealing a name, Azmin stated that he is confident of his successor's capability to lead the state and carry out people-centric policies.

The Gombak MP and Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyperson also said Selangor will always be on his radar.

"I promise that even though I will be (serving) in Putrajaya, Selangor will always have a special place in my heart.

"My successor will also ensure close cooperation with the federal government," he said.

Azmin took over as Selangor menteri besar in September 2014.

As Selangor Pakatan Harapan chief, he led the coalition to a landslide victory in the state, winning 51 out of the 56 state seats.
