Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad has instructed all her members in 191 divisions nationwide to hold special prayers for former premier Najib Abdul Razak following his arrest and detention by the MACC today.
Noraini, in a statement, said Wanita Umno was saddened by the news of Najib's arrest in connection with the 1MDB scandal.
"Wanita Umno will be conducting special prayers at all 191 divisions to seek for safety and justice for Najib, our former Umno president, who has made great contributions to the nation and country.
"I urge all Umno members and Wanita Umno members, in particular, to remain calm with these latest developments… keep on praying for Umno and its members to remain in the protection of Allah SWT," said the Parit Sulong MP.
"As a citizen who has made great contributions to the country, Wanita Umno urges for Najib to be given his full right to a free and fair trial, as well as being accorded the necessary treatment while in the process of being detained and charged," she said.
Najib was arrested by the MACC at his house in Jalan Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur this afternoon and is expected to be charged at the Jalan Duta court complex tomorrow morning in relation to the 1MDB affair.
